Dillon Gabriel made his NFL debut with the Cleveland Browns on Saturday afternoon and helped lead his team to victory of the Philadelphia Eagles.
Update:

Show key events only

KJ Henry started the second half with this pick six on DTR and that ended up being the knockout blow. The Browns took the lead, and then the game got ugly as both teams struggled to build drives.

Gabriel bounced back in both of his drives after turnovers, leading his team to field goals and ran the two minute drill at the end of the first half. It was 13-12 at the end of the half and Gabriel went 13/18 for 143 yards and one INT with one fumble. Let the debate start between him and Shedeur Sanders.

After the fumble Kyle McCord took over for DTR who had an ineffective start to the game. McCord made two passes and the Eagles were in the end zone after getting the ball back with great field position. McCord went 8/16 for 47 yards and this TD while DTR went 5/8 for 17 yards and threw a pick six.

After the interception Gabriel led a FG drive to put CLE back in the lead, but he then gave the ball up again, this time with a muffed hand off. And it was Andrew Mukuba who was there for his second forced turnover.

Gabriel had a near perfect first quarter completing 8 of 9 passes but his first throw of the second quarter was picked off and taken to the house by Andrew Mukuba. He threw into traffic and even though there shouldn't be two WRs in the same place he still shouldn't have made the throw.

Gabriel led the Browns all the way down the field on his first NFL drive of his career. Once inside the five CLE handed it off to Ahmani Marshall who scored his first NFL TD to put the Browns up front early.

The Cleveland Browns went to the house of the defending Super Bowl Champions and a rookie QB helped take down the Philadelphia Eagles. It wasn't the big name rookie that we were looking to see, rather a quiet QB that had a brilliant start to the game.

Dillon Gabriel got the start with Shedeur Sanders sidelined with an oblique injury. Gabriel came out and looked poised in his first NFL action. He led two scoring drives in his first three drives and built long drives that went deep into CLE territory. He also had afew costly mistakes that will haunt him when he goes to bed tonight.

After missing just one pass in the first quarter, Gabriel threw this pick six on the first throw of the second quarter and it was taken to the house by Mukuba.

WE ARE UNDERWAY FROM PHILLY!!!

The Browns will get the ball first and we are going to get our first look at Dillon Gabriel.

Cleveland ball at the 37 and that's where they start the day.

Browns QB situation

The Browns QB room is full, with five QBs currently occupying it. Joe Flacco is the vet, who won’t play in the preseason because the 41 year old has been through plenty of preseason games. Kenny Pickett was signed to potentially be the QB of the future after a failed few years in Pittsburgh and then one in Philly. Dillon Gabriel was drafted in the third round out of Oregon, two rounds before Sanders. And then there is Deshaun Watson who tore his achilles twice last year and isn’t expected to play much if any this season. To make matters more difficult, Sanders, Gabriel and Pickett are all listed as questionable today as they deal with injuries. Joe Flacco might have to play if Stefanski wants to avoid giving Tyler Huntley all of the reps with a QB room full of injuries.

Ward vs. Sanders

They were supposed to be the first two QBs selected in the NFL Draft this past April. That came to fruition for Cam Ward who was taken No. 1 out of the University of Miami, but not exactly the case for Shedeur Sanders. Despite them being drafted on different days, in different rounds, they will always be tied to one and other. Cam played last night against the Atlanta Falcons and had a night to forget. He went 2/7 for 42 yards after going 5/8 for 67 yards in his debut. Shedeur’s debut was much more newsworthy but he won't play today so all eyes are on Dillon Gabriel. Despite the great start for Shedeur, Sanders still has to make the team, while Ward is already the QB1 in Nashville.

Star watch Eagles

Don’t expect to see Jalen Hurts or Saquon Barkley or AJ Brown on the field tonight for the defending champions. While coach Sirriani hasn’t been too vocal on his plans for his stars, he didn’t play them last week, and it’s doubtful to see them today. That means we should get a healthy helping of Tanner McKee who was excellent last week. He went 20/25 for 252 yards against the Bengals defense. He is heading into his second year after getting taken by Philly in the 6th round. He didn’t put up huge numbers at Stanford, but he’s showed that he can sling the rock. Last year he played in two games, completing 66% of his passes for 323 yards and four 4 TDs in two games. Today he can solidify his spot as the QB2 behind Jalen Hurts.

Star watch Browns

Dillon Gabriel is getting the start today in Philly. He sat on the sidelines with an injury during the game against the Panthers. He had to watch Shedeur shine, and make headlines. Now it’s the former Oregon Ducks QB’s turn. He’s got a chance to make his mark in a preseason in which the Browns have five QBs on their roster. The third round pick was taken two rounds before Shedeur. Now it’s time to see what the other Browns rookie QB can do.

Shedeur injury report

The fifth round draft pick of the Cleveland Browns had to be eager to build upon his impressive outing in Charlotte, but late this week, Sanders suffered an oblique strain that the Browns are being awfully careful with. He is listed as day to day, but coach Kevin Stefanski knows this can be a trick injury even for QBs. "If it's a right guard, you can play through that. When it's a quarterback, you kind of need that muscle to throw. So unfortunately, we're going to put him down for a little bit here. We'll treat it day to day and see how it responds, but we need to be smart because he's a thrower. You can't push those things."

Eagles last season

The Eagles we’re under a lot of pressure last year following their late season collapse that saw them lost five of their last six and get KOed in the first round of the playoffs in 2023. They had a new offensive and defensive coordinator, and lofty expectations despite the way the previous season ended. Signing Saquon Barkley really amplified those expectations and he was everything they could have wanted and more. Philly opened the season in Brazil with a win over the Green Bay Packers. They would lost two of their next three games They would straighten the ship and rattle off a 10 game win streak before losing to the Washington Commanders in Week 16. They finished the regular season 14-3, but they didn’t get the one seed in the NFC. Narrow wins over the Packers and Rams led them to the NFC Championship where they crushed the Commanders 55-23 to reach their second Super Bowl in three years. They met the Chiefs on Super Sunday in a rematch of Super Bowl LVII, but this time it was the Eagles hoisting the Lombari Trophy at the end of the night.

Browns last season

It was more of the same for Cleveland last year who struggled from start to finish and ended the season as one of the worst teams in the league. They lost their opener to the Cowboys in Week 1, but beat the Jags the following week as Deshaun Watson got to start a season healthy and not suspended. Things went south for Watson and the Browns as they lost the next five games and slipped to 1-6. Then Watson went down with an achilles injury that ended his season. In stepped Jameis Winston who led Cleveland to a shock victory in his first start as a Brown. That put a band aid on the wound for a little while but the Browns would only win one more game for the rest of the season, finishing 3-14 with the fifth pick in the draft.

Eagles last game

The Eagles were involved in a shootout from Philly last week. Their starters didn’t play but they still put up 34 points against a Bengals team that had Joe Burrow under center at the start of the game. Burrow played two possessions and led the Bengals to TDs on both of those drives. Tanner McKee went toe to toe with Burrow, and had the Eagles up 24-14 at halftime, after leading scoring drives on four of five drives in the first 30 minutes. McKee played one more drive in the second half and helped stretch the lead to 27-14 before going to the bench for the rest of the game having passed for 252 yards and 2 TDs on 20/25 passing. The Eagles ended up winning 34-27 over the Bengals.

Browns last game

The Browns beat the Carolina Panthers last week, but that was far from the headline coming out of Charlotte. Shedeur Sanders got his first taste of NFL action after dropping down to the fifth round in the NFL Draft back in April. Sanders, who got the start, and the Browns went three and out on their first drive, and then they turned it over on downs on the second drive. It took a muffed punt to wake the offense up, but once Sheduer turned on he didn’t turnoff. He threw a strike to Deandre Hopkins to tie the game at 7-7. The Browns would go on to score 30 unanswered points, as Sanders went 14/23 for 138 yards and two TDs in three quarters.

We are live from the Link

Hello everyone and welcome to the home of the defending Super Bowl Champions. The Philadelphia Eagles started their title defense campaign  last week against the Cincinnati Bengals, and got a win despite none of their starters playing. It’s neither been confirmed nor denied that the starters will begin the game, but it’s unlikely that coach Sirriani puts his first team guys on the field in the second week of preseason. That means most of the attention was going to be turned to Shedeur Sanders, but an injury has him doubtful coming into today’s game. He can help his case immensely today in Philly, but there is a risk of a let down after a fantastic introduction to the NFL.
